The preparation of the wildflower patch that I started last year by covering an area of grass with fallen leaves is continuing. This Spring I tilled in the leaves and waited for the grass and weed seedlings to germinate.
Due to the cold Spring germination was slow, but eventually as the soil warmed grass and weed seedlings began to grow and I covered the patch with a tarp to kill the new growth by starving it of light.
Removing the tarp after a month revealed a vegetation free, bare earth.
Careful not to disturb the soil which could bring more weed seeds to the surface, I broadcast the wildflower seeds, covered with chopped mulch and watered.
I will continue to water when we eventually get a dry spell and hopefully
This is the future.
Good prep, but are you going to grow nstive wildflowers?
ReplyDeleteThe seeds were a New England Wildflower mix.
