Describes not how, but where to place stone in the garden, and which material to use when creating contrast or harmony. From steps and paths to direct or invite, through mosaics, follies, benches, seats, and other whimsies, to ponds and patios to relax and refresh.

What else have you planned for a wet winter day.

Stacks, stacks and more stacks.

I find it eminently satisfying stacking wood.

or stone.

Wood stacks can be less structured as their lifespan is usually no more than a couple of years.

Stone on the other hand, stacked correctly, will last many decades, even centuries.

If I ever retire, I should help out at the local supermarket. those promotional pyramids would be up to the ceiling.

Feathered friends.

Every afternoon our turkeys climb the steps to the back porch

First, they look through the door

Then they preen

After preening, they ruffle their feathers

and take a nap.

If you go down to the woods today...

A while ago I received a call from New York City Parks department. They had what they believed to be a short section of Colonial Road.

Today I got to see this piece of history.

Some sections still have a good batter for a retaining wall.

which will be straightforward to tie in the sections destroyed by trees.

My observations lead me to believe there is more to this historic puzzle.
