LECTURES

I am available for speaking engagements on dry stone wall building and gardening. Thus far, I offer five lectures/slide presentations.
  • The Stone Walls and Structures of England and New England: An Evolution
Concentrating on the stone structures of England and New England, this lecture draws comparisons,  between the geology, building styles and techniques of the two regions, Following the evolution of stone walls and structures from colonial times to the present day, this talk explains how they fit into the garden and broader landscape, past and present.

  • Building with Stone in the Garden
An instructive talk that caters to the DIY audience, Andrew explains the correct materials, building techniques, safety procedures and tools, for constructing Stone Walls, Fire Pits, Patios and Outdoor Kitchens etc.

  • Stone in the Garden
This talk illustrates and inspires, describing where to place stone in the garden and which materials to use when creating contrast or harmony. We explore the placement of Patios, steps and paths, stone mosaics, follies, benches, seats and other whimsies, that enhance the garden environment.

  • The Art of the Cottage Garden
Horticulture maybe a science, but creating gardens that speak to ones soul is an art form. This presentation explores the qualities and characteristics that define cottage gardens and offers practical advice on how to achieve this age-old and beloved garden style in your landscape.

  • The Yorkshire Dales, from Herriot to Home
Set in the heart of Northern England, this rural landscape formed the backdrop of James Herriot's book and PBS TV series "All Creatures Great and Small". This graphically rich presentation combines photos and descriptions of the Dales from medieval times, to the present day.

Each of these is roughly 45 minutes long and covers the topics in depth.
